    Council and exile

    Saint Datius participated in the Council of Constantinople and accompanied Pope Vigilius into exile in Chalcedon to flee the persecutions of Emperor Justinian.

    Saint Datius attended the council held in Constantinople by Pope Vigil ius, in which Theodoret, Bishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia, was deposed; he is more famous for having been exiled for the sake of the faith. The intrepid confessor took refuge in Constantinople, then in Cha lcedon wit h the pontiff p ersecuted by Justinian.
