The theater of Saint Tozzo's apostolic labors was the A lgau, a region located in S wabia, between Lake Constance and the Tyrolean Alps. Not content with having evangelized this country during his lifetime, he wished to ensure it had resident apostles by richly endo wing the monastery o f Fuescon, f ounded by Sa int Magnus, whom he had himself b rought bac k from Saint Gall during one of his pilgrimages. This is undoubtedly the reason why Saint Tozzo has been depicted with a torch in his hand. The legend gives this torch another meaning: it reports that while traveling to the tomb of Saint Gall and carrying a torch to light his way at night, the rain and wind could not extinguish it. It was upon returning from this pilgrimage that he led Saint Magnus, the first abbot of Fuescon, toward Bavaria. He was b uried in the church o f Saint Afra, where his relics still remain.
