The third bishop of Metz and collaborator of Saint Clement, Felix governed his diocese for forty-two years with virtue despite persecutions.
Felix was, after Saint Clement , father and apostle of the church o f Metz, of which he had been the active cooperator, the third bishop of this see. He possessed all the episcopal virtues, and distinguished himself through holy vigils. He governed his church for forty-two years, triumphed over many persecutions, and finally attained the heavenly homeland. He was buried in the crypt of the oratory that Saint Clement had built in honor of Saint Peter, prince of the Apostles.
Cult and translation of relics
After his death, a basilica was dedicated to him in Metz before Emperor Henry II transferred his relics to Würzburg in the 11th century.
Soon, to honor the memory of the blessed prelate, a basilica was erected under his name, in which signs of divine power broke forth. The veneration of the people for Saint Felix only inc reased with time, and, in the 11th century, the holy Emperor Henry wished to enrich with his relics the basilica of Würzburg which he had built, wh ere they are honored most religiously.
