Saint Abundius of Como

Diplomatic and Conciliar Mission
Saint Abundius participated in the Council of Milan and led a crucial mission for Pope Leo to restore ecclesial unity following the troubles at Ephesus.
This Bisho p, as famous for his learning as for his holiness, attended the Council of Milan, held under Bishop Eusebius, in the time of Pope Saint Leo. This Pope entrusted him with an important mission whose goal was to repair the damage th at the Robber Counc il of Ephesus had caused to the Church, as seen in the letters (thirty-fourth and thirty-sixth) of the Pontiff to Emperor Theodo sius and Empress Pulcheria. H e fulfilled it very successfully. On this occasion, he assembled a synod: he received into unity An atolius, Bishop of Constantinople, Ma ximus of Antioch, and other bishops who were returning to the bosom of the Church, and restored them to their sees.
