Desideratus was born in the territory of Soissons into a virtuous family and received a Christian and literary education.
This Sai nt was born in the territory of Soissons , towards the beginning of the 7th century; he was raised in Christian piety and in the study of letters, along with two of his brothers, through the care of his parents, who were distinguished in the region for their virtue. He was made B ishop of Bourges af ter the deat h of Saint Arcade ; he attended the Fifth Cou ncil of Orleans, assembled in the year 549, and the Second Council of Auvergne, which was held at the latest at the beginning of the following year. T hese coun cils c ondemned the errors of Nestorius and Eutyches, and made wise regulations for the preservation or restoration of ecclesiastical discipline. After having worked for nine years of episcopate to root out errors and vices in his diocese, and to restore or maintain good discipline throughout the extent of his metropolis, he died on Sunday, May 8, 550, according to the most probable opinion.
