    Biography

Born in 1433 in Kazimierz, Stanisław Sołtys grew up in a pious family before joining the Canons Regular of the Lateran, dedicating his life to study, prayer, and service to the poor until his death in 1489.

Stanisław Sołtys, later known as Stanisław Kazimierczyk, was born on September 27, 1433, in Kazimierz, a suburb of Kraków in Poland [1.2.1]. The son of Maciej Sołtys, a city councilor and weaver, and Jadwiga, he grew up in a deeply Christian home. After attending the Corpus Christi parish school, he pursued brilliant studies in philosophy and theology at the Academy of Kraków. At the age of 23, in 1456, he chose to enter the Canons Regular of the Lateran at the Corpus Christi monastery in Kazimierz. Ordained a priest, he quickly distinguished himself by his piety and intelligence, obtaining his university degrees while dedicating himself fully to community life. He served as master of novices, sub-prior, preacher, and confessor. Worn out by rigorous penances and boundless charity toward the sick and the needy, he passed away on May 3, 1489, at the age of 55, while praying on his knees in his cloister.

After invoking the intercession of Blessed Stanisław, he miraculously recovered his sight. This miracle was officially approved by Pope Benedict XVI on December 19, 2009.
