Biography
The life of Pietro Marcellino Corradini, from his birth in Sezze to his death in Rome as a cardinal.
Pietro Marcellino Corradini was born on June 2, 1658, in Sezze into a Christian family. After studies with the Jesuits and then at the Sapienza University in Rome, where he obtained a doctorate in law in 1681, he began a brilliant legal career. In 1690, he renounced his possessions to commit himself to the ecclesiastical path. Ordained a priest in 1702, he was appointed titular archbishop of Athens in 1707, then created a cardinal by Clement XI in 1712. Having become bishop of Frascati in 1734, he passed away in Rome on February 8, 1743.
Life and Work
The cardinal's major achievements, notably the foundation of the Collegine Sisters of the Holy Family and his charitable work.
In 1717, moved by the distress of the young girls of Sezze, he founded the Congregation of the Convitrices of the Holy Family (today the Collegine Sisters of the Holy Family) for their education. He also actively supported the San Gallicano Hospital in Rome to care for the poor. A scholar, he published major historical and legal works, while firmly defending the rights of the Holy See as a diplomat.

During the conclave of 1730, while he was a favorite, the Emperor of Austria vetoed his election, which he accepted with serenity. In 1740, despite a new Spanish veto, he himself refused the election due to his advanced age, favoring the election of Benedict XIV.
Beatification and canonization
The official process that led to the recognition of the heroic nature of his virtues by Pope Francis.
The cause for beatification was introduced in Palermo in 1993 and closed at the diocesan level in 1999. After the Roman validation in 2001, Pope Francis authorized on April 24, 2021, the promulgation of the decree recognizing the heroic nature of his virtues, conferring upon him the title of Venerable.
