Pietro Marcellino Corradini

In 1717, moved by the distress of the young girls of Sezze, he founded the Congregation of the Convitrices of the Holy Family (today the Collegine Sisters of the Holy Family) for their education. He also actively supported the San Gallicano Hospital in Rome to care for the poor. A scholar, he published major historical and legal works, while firmly defending the rights of the Holy See as a diplomat.

Cardinal Corradini distinguished himself by his humility in the face of honors. During the conclave of 1730, while he was a favorite, the Emperor of Austria vetoed his election, which he accepted with serenity. In 1740, despite a new Spanish veto, he himself refused the election due to his advanced age, favoring the election of Benedict XIV.

The cause for beatification was introduced in Palermo in 1993 and closed at the diocesan level in 1999. After the Roman validation in 2001, Pope Francis authorized on April 24, 2021, the promulgation of the decree recognizing the heroic nature of his virtues, conferring upon him the title of Venerable.

Rooted in the Gospel, his spirituality is characterized by simplicity, trust in mercy, and love for the poor. His legacy endures through the Congregation of the Collegine Sisters of the Holy Family. Under the motto "Ama, Educa, Insegna," the religious sisters continue their mission of education in Italy and in several countries around the world, including Albania, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Romania, Poland, Tanzania, and Kenya.
