    Biography

Youth and formation of Raymundo Jardón Herrera, born into a modest family in Tenancingo and ordained a priest in 1913.

Raymundo Jardón Herrera was born on January 21, 1887, in Tenancingo, in the State of Mexico, into a family of very modest means. The son of Jacinto Jardón, an agricultural worker, and Paula Herrera, he was baptized on January 24, 1887. Coming from a family of fourteen children, he worked from a young age to help his family. Thanks to the support of his parish priest, he studied at the Colegio Pío Gregoriano. In 1900, the Bishop of Cuernavaca, Msgr. Francisco Plancarte y Navarrete, noticed him and had him enter the diocesan seminary of San José de Cuernavaca. Raymundo became his personal assistant, which disrupted his theological studies. In May 1912, Msgr. Plancarte y Navarrete, having been appointed Archbishop of Linares, took him to Monterrey. Raymundo was ordained a priest on April 27, 1913, in the Cathedral of Saltillo due to the Archbishop's illness, and he celebrated his first Mass in Cuernavaca before settling in Monterrey.
