    Biography

Birth in Genoa, youth, religious vocation with the Minims, and priestly ordination of Pio Dellepiane.

Pio Edoardo Natale Dellepiane was born on January 4, 1904, in the Marassi district of Genoa, Italy. The first of ten children from his father Pio Maria Dellepiane's second marriage to Carmela Maria Giuseppina D'Angelo, he grew up in a deeply Christian family and was baptized on January 10, 1904, in the parish of Santa Margherita V.M., served by the Order of Minims. After his secondary studies, he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts due to his artistic sensitivity. Feeling a religious calling, he overcame his mother's opposition, who was worried about his fragile health in the face of the rigor of the Minims' life of penance. In October 1924, he entered the Minims' convent at the sanctuary of San Francesco di Paola in Genoa. He began his novitiate on November 1, 1925, under the direction of Father Federico Winkler, taking the name Brother Pio Stanislao. He made his temporary vows on November 1, 1926, his solemn profession on December 26, 1929, and was ordained a priest on June 14, 1930, by Cardinal Carlo Dalmazio Minoretti.

    Life and Work

The itinerant ministry of Pio Dellepiane, his friendship with Padre Pio, and his role in the founding of the Armata Bianca.

The priestly ministry of Father Pio Dellepiane took place primarily between Rimini and Rome. In 1931, he was appointed master of novices in Rimini at the sanctuary of Sant'Antonio di Padova, dedicating himself to confession and spiritual direction. In 1933, he became vice-pastor at the Basilica of Sant'Andrea delle Fratte in Rome, where he devoted himself to the poor and the sick, notably during the bombing of the San Lorenzo district in July 1943. In 1946, his meeting with Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina marked a turning point. A deep friendship developed; the Capuchin affectionately called him "Padre Pio delle vette" (Father Pio of the summits) and sent him many penitents. Father Dellepiane became involved in the Prayer Groups of Padre Pio and promoted the consecration of families. He attended the final moments of Padre Pio in September 1968. From 1948 to 1970, he alternated his ministries between Rimini, Montefiore Conca, and Massa Lubrense. In Rimini, he begged for funds to rebuild the church and convent destroyed by the war. In 1972, inspired by Our Lady of Fátima and encouraged by Padre Pio, he collaborated actively with Father Andrea D'Ascanio in the founding of the Armata Bianca (the White Army), a movement encouraging children to pray the rosary for peace.
