Birth and initial miracle
Born lifeless in Andenne, the child was miraculously resurrected at the chapel of Notre-Dame de la Vigne following the prayers of his charcoal-burner father.
This Saint came into the world dead, which caused him to be called Saint Mort-Né (Stillborn). Andenne, in the county of Namur, was his homeland. His father, who practiced the humble trade of a charcoal burner in the nearby forest, carried him to the chapel of Notre-Dame de la Vigne and obtained from heaven the gra ce of s eeing him return to life. When he was grown, Mort-Né embraced his father's profession; but the latter having died, he took the resolution to withdraw into solitude to devote himself entirely to prayer.
Vocation and solitary life
After practicing his father's trade, he chose the life of a hermit and prayer upon his father's death, living until the age of eighty.
He died an octogenarian.
Translation and devotion
Discovered dead in his cell, a divine sign mandated his transfer to the church of Saint-Jean in Huy, a place he frequented assiduously during his lifetime.
The inhabitants of Andenne, no longer seeing him come out, went to his cell where they found him lying on his pallet, his hands joined. They wished to bury him among them. But a heavenly sign made it known to them that he had to be transported to the church of Saint John the Evangelist in H uy: the Blessed one had during his life visited this sanctuary dedicated to the beloved Apost le once every mo nth; it was undoubtedly in reward for his devotion that heaven reserved this glorious burial for him.
