Saint Helladius of Auxerre

Bishop of Auxerre in the 4th century, Helladius succeeded Saint Valerian during the reign of Valentinian the Elder. During his twenty-three years of episcopate, he converted many faithful through his preaching and example. He died around 385 and was buried at Mont-Artre alongside his predecessors.

    Episcopate and mission in Auxerre

    Helladius succeeded Saint Valerian on the see of Auxerre during the reign of Valentinian I, distinguishing himself through his conversions.

    Helladi us or Hellade, bishop of Auxe rre, held this see aft er Saint Valer ian, around the tim e of Valentinian the Elder. Entrusted with the care of the Lord's flock, he converted a great number of souls to the faith, by his word and by his example. He went to receive from his heavenly master the reward for his labors, in the twenty-third year of his episcopate, on the 8th of May, around the year 38 5, and was buried on Mont-Artre, beside his predecessors.
